Description

photo Set into the side of The Tjampuhan valley in Bali's cultural heartland of Ubud, the Pita Maha Resort and Spa is a landscaped jewel overlooking the beautiful River Oos. From the lobby and restaurant area, the natural beauty of the Ubud foothills is immediately apparent. Sweeping views of lush rice terraces and tropical woodland draw the eye along the valley to the sea, where the airport is just 45 minutes by road from this mountain retreat.

Rich in history, the Tjampuhan area became the focal point of Bali's artistic community when in 1934, the Prince of Ubud, Tjokorda Gde Agung Sukawati, joined forces with the celebrated Western artists Walter Spies and Rudolf Bonnet to create an artists' association they named "Pita Maha". The assosiation, whose name in English menas "Great Shining", was designed to create an artistic community, fostering and promoting the talent of local artists such as I Gusti Nyoman Lempad, Made Poleng, Gusti Ketut Kobot and Gusti Made Deblog. First dreamed up in the Tjokorda's private guest house, which later became the famous Hotel Tjampuhan, the association was directly responsible for making Ubud today's undisputed centre for Balinese art.

In 1994, to commemorate the birth of this artistic force and to keep alive the original philosophy, the Pita Maha Resort and Spa was created as a sister hotel to the celebrated original, opening its doors on December 1, 1995. Designed by a member of Ubud's Royal family, a descendant of the founding Prince, The Pita Maha Resort and Spa lives and breathes as an organic Balinese village, with 24 villas set in traditionally-styled walled compounds which provide the ultimate in comfort and privacy.

Most of the villas enjoy a private pool and enclosed garden, four with two-storey facilities to accommodate families. All villas are luxuriously appointed, with air-conditioning, satellite TV, private bar and other modern conveniences. The standard of workmanship, in wood and stone, befits that of the most ancient and powerful Balinese palaces, with carefully tended gardens and an eye for detail that will delight the most discerning guest.

A split-level restaurant, opening onto the valley, offers a sumptuous range of Western and Oriental specialties, while an informal warung alongside the springwater-fed main pool provides snacks and drinks in a relaxed setting.

Immerse yourself and relax in style with a healing session at the Pita Maha Private Villa Spa, the centrepiece of the resort. The lavishly-appointed Private Villa Spa offers a new completeness in health treatments, the total relaxation of body and mind in the most exquisite surroundings.

Tucked away in the most secluded corner of the Pita Maha Resort and Spa, this luxury villa has every facility for the ultimate spa break in total privacy. Sauna and steam room open onto hot or cold whirlpool baths, an eight-metre private pool, and a spring water plunge pool overflowing with fragrant tropical flowers.

An enchanting split-level design offers massage, aroma-therapy and herbal treatments in a private relaxation room between spa and villa. Outdoor dining and leisure pavilions complete the perfect healing hideaway for couples or small groups of up to four persons.
